7 Rules For A Successful Interview

People are fighting tooth and nail to get their target job. To be able to have an edge against the competition, check out these interview rules:

Research

Research about the company and know as much as you can about it before the interview. You may sell yourself better in the interview if you know a lot about the company’s products, services, customers and competition. The more understanding you have about the company and its needs the more edge you have over the other applicants.

Look Good and Sharp

Choose your outfit well. Wear something that will make you look sharp and smart even if the environment in the company is casual. Also, check for wrinkles and spots. How you look will speak about your character and it will give you confidence.

Be Punctual

Never come late. Arrive at least 10 to 15 minutes before the interview and don’t arrive super early either. Arriving very early for the interview will make your interviewer feel that you’re rushing him or her. Just allow time for factors such as difficulty in finding the interview room or getting lost.

Be Enthusiastic

Although you may feel nervous make sure to show enthusiasm by making plenty of eye contact, offering a firm handshake, and speaking with a confident, alert and enthusiastic tone.

Listen carefully

Listening is a very important yet often neglected interview skill. You must listen carefully not only to the questions asked but to every word being said because sometimes you need to read between the lines. A very good listening skill will allow you to answer questions accurately.

Provide specific examples

Prepare a script on how to best present yourself. Give specific examples of your past experiences that will highlight your achievements and uniqueness. This is important because past experiences can indicate your performance in the future.

Follow up

Sending a follow up email or regular mail is your last chance to present yourself. Follow up and remind your interviewer of the good you may bring to your target job and to the company.

The rules given above will decrease your anxiety and will make you feel more confident for a job interview. There is no way you will be able to predict all the questions that will be asked of you in the interview so all you can do is find ways to increase your confidence level and present yourself in the best way you can.
